Thus, the primary objective of creating Bureau as indicated in the above mentioned memorandum was to coordinate the entire statistical effort of the Government so that all the statistics that the Government might require for efficient administration would either be made available at once or by undertaking statistical surveys in the most efficient and economic manner. Today, the Bureau is a major Statistical Directorate in the State entrusted with the responsibility of collection, collation, analysis and dissemination of credible and timely Statistics at various levels covering all sectors of the State Economy for the purpose of planning, decision making and comparative analysis of statistics pertaining to different States. The sanctioned staff strength of the Bureau is 1891.
